Accident – Death – Obituary News :

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WXIN) — The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identification of another set of human remains discovered at the former residence of Herb Baumeister in Westfield. The remains, originally found in 1996 at Fox Hollow Farm, have been identified as belonging to Jeffrey Jones.

Jeffrey Jones is the third individual to be identified from remains found at the site, following the identification of Allen Livingston last year. Livingston, who was reported missing to the Indianapolis Police Department in 1993, was linked to Baumeister’s serial killer case. Baumeister was believed to have lured gay men to his home in the mid-80s and mid-90s before killing them and disposing of their bodies on the property.

Officials revealed that Jones’ remains were identified through an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation conducted by the coroner’s office and the FBI. Jones, a resident of Fillmore, was reported missing in August 1993. The investigation at Fox Hollow Farm has yielded over 10,000 pieces of remains, including bones, fragments, and body parts. Four DNA profiles remain unidentified, bringing the total number of known victims to 12.

The Challenging Investigation

Due to the condition of the remains, which were found burnt and crushed, the investigation has been incredibly challenging. Nevertheless, the team of law enforcement and forensic specialists working on the case remain dedicated to uncovering the truth. Special recognition was given to the FBI, Indiana State Police Laboratory, Dr. Krista Latham of the Biology & Anthropology Department at the University of Indianapolis, and DNA experts from the Texas-based Othram Laboratory for their invaluable contributions to the investigation.

The release mentioned that the four unidentified DNA profiles will be forwarded to the FBI for further genetic genealogy analysis. The investigation into Baumeister’s crimes began in 1996 when his 15-year-old son discovered bones on the family’s 18-acre estate. Baumeister passed away shortly after the discovery.

Continued Efforts

Officials remain committed to bringing closure to the families of the victims and ensuring that justice is served. The relentless efforts of the investigative team, in collaboration with various forensic experts, highlight the importance of pursuing justice for the victims of these heinous crimes.
