A second suspect has been apprehended by Mobile police in connection with a shooting incident that took place in April, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old man from Semmes and leaving a juvenile injured. The arrest was made public by Mobile police on Thursday morning.
The suspect, identified as Kalvin Lamar Matthews Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Mobile, was taken into custody on Wednesday and has since been booked into the Mobile Metro Jail. He is facing charges of murder and 1st-degree assault. Another suspect, 24-year-old Grant Lavarus Myles, was arrested and charged with the same offences two weeks prior.
The incident took place on April 23 when Mobile police responded to reports of a shooting on Prairie Avenue shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of a male victim with gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The victim was later identified as Jaylin Jaron Craig, a 26-year-old from Semmes.
During the investigation, authorities also located a male juvenile victim with gunshot injuries inside another vehicle in the vicinity. The juvenile was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, but fortunately, he survived the attack.
As of Thursday morning, Matthews is being held in the Mobile Metro Jail, awaiting an initial court appearance scheduled for Friday morning. Myles, the other suspect in the case, remains in custody with bail set at $200,250.
