A female suspect has been taken into custody by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in relation to the tragic death of 47-year-old James Milton Jr. in 2022. The incident took place on the city’s near northeast side, where officers responded to a welfare check on a person in the 3600 block of North Lasalle Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Milton inside a vehicle with injuries consistent with trauma, and sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After a thorough investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 40-year-old Montez Craig, who was initially released after questioning pending further inquiries. However, on May 17, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Craig with murder and issued a warrant for her arrest.
On Monday, Craig was apprehended without incident in the 6100 block of North Keystone Avenue. Subsequently, a separate investigation involving Craig and another individual, identified as 42-year-old Julian Lee, was conducted. It was revealed that they were in possession of illegal substances.
Drug-related Charges
During the investigation, a police dog alerted officers to the presence of a controlled substance in the vicinity where Craig and Lee had been seen. Following this discovery, detectives obtained a search warrant and found cocaine, marijuana, and evidence of drug dealing inside the vehicle.
As a result, Craig and Lee were arrested for dealing in and possession of cocaine, as well as dealing in and possession of marijuana. The final charging decisions will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
