A 39-year-old man, identified as Eric Deon Parham of Euclid, was shot by Euclid Police officers after allegedly reaching for a gun during an incident at Sims Park.

The incident took place on May 22 at 1:30 p.m. when Euclid Police responded to a report of shots fired at Sims Park located at 23131 Lakeshore Blvd. Police were given a description of a possible suspect and were informed that the individual was last seen heading towards Maria’s Family Restaurant.

Police located the suspect, who was later identified as Parham, in the rear parking lot of the restaurant. Initially complying with police orders to raise his hands, Parham then attempted to walk away from the officers. He then allegedly reached for a handgun in his waistband, prompting the officers to fire at him.

Parham was subsequently taken into custody and received medical treatment before being transported to Cuyahoga County Jail. A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that a 42-year-old female had been injured by gunfire in Sims Park during the initial report of shots fired. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Parham was wanted by the Euclid Police for a previous felonious assault on the same woman that occurred on May 17, where shots were also fired. He has a history of arrests for aggravated robbery, felonious assault, firearms, and narcotics charges.

Following the incident, two Euclid officers involved have been placed on administrative duties as per department policy. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an inquiry at the request of Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer.

No officers were harmed during the altercation.
