Douglas Ernesto Benavides : “Man with Machete Threatens with Child Nearby”

Woodbridge, United Kingdom – On the evening of May 19, 2024, a disturbing incident unfolded in Woodbridge when Douglas Ernesto Benavides, a 43-year-old resident, was taken into custody for brandishing a machete-style knife during a road rage altercation. The situation was further aggravated by Benavides’ intoxication and the presence of a 2-year-old child in his vehicle, leading to a series of serious charges being levelled against him.

Details of the Incident

Authorities were alerted to the situation at 6:57 PM on Old Delaney Rd. near Quate Ln. in Woodbridge. The victim, a 19-year-old male, found himself embroiled in a road rage clash with Benavides, who was behind the wheel of another vehicle. As both cars came to a halt on Old Delaney Rd., the victim approached Benavides’ vehicle, only to be met with the menacing sight of a machete-style knife being brandished at him. Benavides then swiftly departed the scene, prompting law enforcement to track him down to a nearby residence where he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Shockingly, a 2-year-old girl was also discovered in the vehicle at the time of the altercation. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Douglas Ernesto Benavides on charges of felony child neglect, brandishing a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, driving under the influence (DUI), and driving with a revoked license. Benavides is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 18, 2024.
