Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An Indianapolis man, Demarcus McCloud, has been federally indicted for setting an IndyGo bus and bus station on fire in April. The incident occurred on April 24 at an IndyGo Red Line bus station, where McCloud reportedly caught a bus and the station on fire. Eyewitnesses identified McCloud as the suspect, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges.

The court documents filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana outline the charges against McCloud, which include one count of arson of property receiving federal funds and one count of arson of vehicle or property receiving federal funds. The estimated damages from the incident amount to approximately $2.1 million for the bus and $25,000 for the bus station.

According to witness reports, McCloud was seen fleeing the scene of the fire towards a nearby McDonald’s location. Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the incident, where they found the front half of the bus engulfed in flames. McCloud was apprehended by IMPD officers, who discovered him holding two butane lighters and smelling of gasoline.

Video footage obtained during the investigation revealed McCloud boarding the Red Line bus at the Julia Carson Transit Center with a jug containing an ignitable liquid, suspected to be gasoline. He proceeded to smoke a cigarette on the bus, igniting a piece of paper with a lighter before pouring the liquid on the floor and setting it ablaze near the bus stop at N. Meridian St. and 38th St.

After igniting the fire, McCloud ran towards the McDonald’s location, where he was apprehended by law enforcement. One individual on the bus during the incident was treated for smoke inhalation, while McCloud was taken to a local hospital for possible injuries. The court documents also allege that McCloud set a trash can on fire at the IndyGo Red Line bus station on a previous occasion.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is leading the investigation into the case. If convicted of the charges in the indictment, McCloud could face up to 40 years in prison. The incident highlights the seriousness of arson crimes and the potential consequences for those found guilty of such actions.
