AURORA, IL — A 19-year-old man from Aurora is facing kidnapping charges after allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim contacted Aurora police at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday to report the kidnapping, which occurred near Illinois Avenue and Orchard Avenue. According to a news release issued on Thursday, the girl was walking in a nearby neighborhood when a man she did not know began following her. As she walked on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, he grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand, and forcefully took her away.
The young girl managed to free herself from the suspect, identified as Daniel Raines, who then fled the scene on foot, according to authorities. A description of the man was quickly relayed to police, who were able to locate him at around 3:20 p.m. near North Avenue and River Street.
Raines was apprehended and following an investigation, he was charged with two counts of kidnapping by force, one count of aggravated battery in a public place, and one count of battery making physical contact of an insulting/provoking nature, as stated by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. The teenager was subsequently taken to the Kane County Adult Justice Center, where he is currently being held in custody.
