Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Escalon, United Kingdom – A tense situation unfolded in Escalon on Thursday, May 16, as threats with a firearm led to a school lockdown and the subsequent arrest of two individuals.

Incident Details

The incident began early in the morning on May 16 when a victim reported being threatened with a firearm during a civil dispute in the 500 block of First Street. The dispute arose over possessions that the victim had stored at the property in question.

Escalon Police swiftly responded to the report and secured both an arrest warrant and a search warrant for the property. Despite being advised by the department against returning to the location, the victim sought a civil standby from Escalon police officers to safely retrieve their possessions.

Unfortunately, this action inadvertently alerted the suspect to the ongoing investigation, prompting a heightened response from law enforcement due to the seriousness of the alleged crime – assault with a deadly weapon (firearm).

School Lockdown

As a precautionary measure, El Portal Middle School, located in the 800 block of First Street, was placed on lockdown due to its proximity to the residence being searched in the 500 block. This measure was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff during the police operation.

Arrests Made

Following a thorough investigation, Escalon Police arrested 56-year-old Chad Evans of Escalon as the primary suspect. Evans faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, a second individual, 39-year-old Johnathan Hughes from Escalon, was also arrested. Hughes had an outstanding traffic warrant and was found to be in possession of ammunition as a felon, leading to his arrest.

The swift and coordinated response by Escalon Police and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team helped bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of the community.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing efforts to uphold public safety in Escalon.
