Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A former Glendale Heights resident has been handed a 58-year prison sentence for breaking into the home of an elderly woman and sexually assaulting her in November 2021. Anthony Lane, aged 55, was found guilty of one count of home invasion and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault following a three-day trial and two hours of jury deliberations, according to a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney Office.

On December 6, 2021, Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh set Lane’s bond at $5 million with 10% applicable. Lane has been held in custody at the DuPage County Jail since that time.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 22, 2021, when the 92-year-old victim returned home from a dialysis appointment and encountered Lane in her attached garage. Lane forced his way into the victim’s home, bound her hands with duct tape, and sexually assaulted her in her bedroom. After the assault, Lane fled the scene, prompting the victim to call 911 and seek medical attention at a local hospital.

Authorities identified Lane as the suspect in the case, and he was apprehended by Addison police on December 2, 2021. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed outrage at the heinous nature of the crime, stating, “The violent, sexual assault of an elderly woman in her own home is one of the most egregious crimes I have encountered in my 36 years as a prosecutor.”

Lane has been sentenced to serve 85% of his 58-year prison term before being eligible for parole. He will receive credit for the time already spent in custody at the DuPage County Jail.
