Accident – Death – Obituary News :

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – An individual accused in a downtown Lexington shooting made another appearance in court on Thursday morning.

25-year-old Alonzo Richardson is facing charges of assault and violating a protective order.

During the court proceedings, testimony was presented indicating that surveillance footage from various establishments depicted Richardson shooting a victim outside Stingz Lounge.

According to Detective Jeremy Adkins of Lexington Police, “The suspect can be seen approaching, retrieving a firearm, and discharging two to three rounds from the sidewalk before moving closer to the victim and firing several additional shots at close range.”

The victim, identified as Rodney Pearson, sustained five gunshot wounds but managed to survive. He is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

Authorities were able to apprehend Richardson thanks to Flock cameras capturing the vehicle’s license plate information.

Subsequently, a witness with close ties to Richardson informed law enforcement of a conversation they had following the shooting.

“Statements were made suggesting that ‘I need to keep a low profile now’… ‘I had to disguise myself’… ‘Have you heard about the incident downtown?'” Adkins recounted.

The witness also positively identified Richardson as the individual in the surveillance footage.

After being taken into custody, Richardson admitted to the crime during questioning.

“During the interrogation, he was read his Miranda rights, and at one point, he confessed to shooting the victim,” Adkins disclosed.

Friends and family of the victim filled the courtroom, as they had done in previous hearings.

Following emotional pleas from loved ones during the previous appearance, the judge decided to raise Richardson’s bond from $10,000 to $25,000.

However, Judge Tackett deemed this amount as still insufficient.

“The current bond does not reflect the considerable danger posed by the defendant. Therefore, taking everything into consideration, I have opted to increase the bond to $500,000,” Judge Tackett declared.

The case has now been referred to the Fayette County grand jury for further deliberation.
