Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 26-year-old man named Alex G. has been arrested in Eysines, Gironde, near Bordeaux, on suspicion of planning a mass killing. The arrest came after a tip-off via the government platform Pharos on May 17. Pharos is a government website designed for reporting illicit content and behavior online.

According to Bordeaux prosecutor Frédérique Porterie, the suspect had written a post that could be interpreted as apologist and made reference to a mass murder in California on May 23, 2014. The post indicated a fascination with the Isla Vista attack in the US, which resulted in the death of seven people and the injury of 14 others.

Investigations have revealed that the man has no prior criminal convictions but is believed to have connections to the ‘incel movement’. ‘Incel’ stands for ‘involuntary celibate’ and refers to an online community of men who blame women, feminism, and society for their inability to find romantic or sexual partners.

The incel movement has garnered attention due to its association with radicalism and violent extremism, with some attackers worldwide being linked to the group. Recently, a Scottish minister warned that incel violence could pose a threat comparable to Islamist terrorism.

The perpetrator of the Isla Vista attack was also affiliated with the incel movement, planning his attack and writing a manifesto prior to the killings. The manifesto expressed a desire for “retribution” against women and attractive men due to his inability to form romantic relationships.

The man in Bordeaux has confessed to wanting to plan his own murders following a perceived insult, without specifying a location. During searches of his residence, authorities discovered a revolver, multiple mobile phones, and a seized laptop.

Contrary to previous reports, prosecutor Porterie stated that there was no evidence suggesting the suspect planned to carry out the act during the Olympic torch relay in Paris. This contradicts a tweet by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.

It has been revealed that the suspect is psychologically vulnerable, although a psychiatrist appointed to assess him did not identify any specific disorder. A judicial investigation has been initiated on the grounds of criminal apologist tendencies and criminal conspiracy, with Porterie recommending that the suspect be held in custody pending further inquiries.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with extremist ideologies and the importance of vigilance in identifying and addressing threats to public safety..
