FREMONT – A tragic incident unfolded in Fremont on Tuesday, resulting in the death of one man and injuring another, as reported by authorities.
An off-duty Fremont police officer stumbled upon the scene near Fremont Boulevard and Thornton Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Fremont Police Department revealed in a recent news release.
The vehicle had collided with a substantial tree and was on the verge of catching fire, according to police.
The driver succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash, marking the city’s third traffic fatality of the year.
The officer managed to extract a passenger from the vehicle, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Both the driver and passenger were identified as 19-year-old residents of Newark.
An investigation into the crash’s cause is currently underway, with police highlighting excessive speed as a “significant factor.” It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
