Tucson Police have apprehended a 17-year-old male in relation to a series of offenses committed in May, which include third-degree burglary, auto theft, first-degree burglary, and aggravated assault.
The teenager came under suspicion after a black Kia Sedan was reported stolen from an apartment complex at 6340 S. Santa Clara Ave on May 9, as per a social media update from the Tucson Police Department. The vehicle was later discovered on the south side of Tucson on May 11. Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department tried to intercept the sedan, but the driver evaded them and eventually abandoned the vehicle, according to the press release.
The PCSD identified the alleged driver as the 17-year-old, who was reported as a runaway and was known to be armed, with an outstanding arrest warrant, the statement indicated.
Subsequently, the teenager was implicated as a suspect in a home invasion that took place on May 14. The perpetrators forced their way into an apartment close to South Mission Road during the early hours of the morning.
Reportedly, one of the suspects was seen wearing a tan tactical vest and brandishing a pistol. Fortunately, the victims—a woman and two children—escaped unscathed. Numerous officers from the TPD and specialized units were deployed to locate and apprehend the teenager.
Later that day, the teenager was found in a vehicle near the intersection of South Campbell Avenue and East Valencia Road. The Tucson Police SWAT team intercepted the vehicle and took him into custody.
During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered the tactical vest and handgun. It was revealed that the vest had been taken from the stolen Kia. Additionally, investigators uncovered that the teenager had posted several photos of himself standing on top of the stolen vehicle, clad in the pilfered vest and armed with the pistol.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the spate of crimes committed in the Tucson area. The authorities are continuing their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the community.
