Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Pune has made a decision on the review petition filed by the Pune Police in the Pune Porsche accident case. The Board had previously released the minor accused, 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal, on mild terms and conditions, which included writing an essay. However, the Board has now sent him to an observation home until June 5.

Prashant Patil, the lawyer representing the minor accused, clarified that the bail has not been cancelled but rather modified. He stated, “Today, the police filed a review application against the bail order. They argued for the minor accused to be kept in a Rehabilitation/Observation Home due to security concerns. Detailed arguments were presented, leading to the JJ Board remanding the minor accused to the Rehabilitation/Observation Home until the 5th of June.”

He further explained, “Regarding the application to treat him as an adult, no arguments took place today as per the Juvenile Justice Act, which typically takes 2-3 months to decide on. Although the application was filed today, the arguments did not take place. Today, an operative part of the order was pronounced, and we await the detailed order.”

Pune Police Add Charges Against 17-Year-Old Accused

Prior to the hearing before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Pune police have added several charges against the 17-year-old accused. These new charges include section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act (driving by a drunken person), section 184 (action against those who violate traffic rules through rash or dangerous driving), section 119 (age limit in connection with the driving of motor vehicles), and section 177 (general provision for punishment of offenses).

The JJB considered the application from Pune police to try the 17-year-old accused as an adult. The teenager allegedly drove a Porsche car while intoxicated, resulting in a fatal collision with two motorbike-borne software engineers in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, in the early hours of Sunday.

Father Of Accused Arrested

The father of the accused, Vishal Agarwal, a real estate developer, was remanded to two days of police custody by a sessions court on Wednesday. According to the remand copy, Agarwal was uncooperative with the investigation, prompting Pune police to request his custody for further questioning.

During the initial investigation, Agarwal provided misleading information to the police, claiming he was in Shirdi when he was actually in Aurangabad. Following his arrest, he was found in possession of a basic Nokia phone and a Kia-manufactured car, both of which were seized by the authorities.

The police have registered a case against Agarwal under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, as well as relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 75 pertains to the willful neglect of a child or exposing a child to mental or physical harm, while section 77 involves supplying a child with intoxicating substances.

According to the FIR, Agarwal allowed his son to drive the car despite knowing he did not have a valid license, putting his life at risk. He also permitted his son to attend a party knowing he had consumed alcohol. The victims, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune, tragically lost their lives in the accident.
