A 13-year-old child is currently in the hospital following a shooting incident that took place on Tuesday night, as reported by the Statesville Police Department.

At around 9:45 p.m., law enforcement officers received a distress call regarding a shooting on the 600 block of Crescent Lane in Statesville.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered a 13-year-old individual who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was promptly transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for urgent medical treatment.

Following an intensive investigation, a 16-year-old suspect was identified in connection to the shooting incident.

The 16-year-old suspect was subsequently apprehended and charged with attempted murder by the authorities.
