Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his 8-month-old daughter, Misty Delatorre. The tragic incident took place in February 2023 and has left the community in shock.

Misty’s death was initially ruled a homicide by the North Carolina Medical Examiner, but no arrests were made until now. Her mother and grandmother have been tirelessly fighting for justice over the past year, seeking accountability for the innocent child.

Speaking to reporters, Misty’s grandmother, Misty Bray, expressed her desire for justice, stating, “I just want justice. I did. I just want my grandbaby’s death – someone needs to be held accountable. She’s innocent. She didn’t even have her first tooth yet.”

Investigative reports revealed that Misty was under the care of her father, Sgt. Gabriel Ceville, at the time of her death. Ceville, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, now faces charges of unpremeditated murder, involuntary manslaughter, and domestic violence.

According to court documents, the domestic violence charge is not related to Misty but to another family member. Ceville’s defense attorney claimed that the charge stemmed from an incident of parental discipline.

Tragic Circumstances

Records indicate that Ceville called 911 to report that his daughter was not breathing. Misty was airlifted to UNC Hospitals but tragically passed away a few days later. The autopsy revealed that she died from blunt force trauma to her head and neck, prompting suspicions of foul play by law enforcement.

At the time of the incident, Misty’s mother, Alina Delatorre, was in California. She described the moment she received the devastating news, saying, “I felt like my world was just closing in. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.”

Just two weeks before Misty’s death, a Cumberland County judge had awarded 50/50 custody to both parents. Despite this, the tragic events unfolded, leading to the loss of an innocent life.

Legal Response

In January, before any charges were brought against him, Ceville declined to comment on the case at the advice of his legal team. When approached for a statement following the murder charges, he abruptly ended the conversation, showing a reluctance to engage with the media.

ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson, who has been following the case closely, spoke to Misty’s grandmother, who expressed relief at the progress in the investigation. She believes that these charges against Ceville are the first step towards achieving justice for her granddaughter.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains united in seeking justice for Misty Delatorre. The memory of the innocent child will live on as her loved ones fight for accountability and closure in this heartbreaking case.
