In recent weeks, Okanogan County has been rocked by a series of shootings, resulting in two tragic fatalities. The incidents have left the community reeling and law enforcement authorities scrambling to bring those responsible to justice.

Early Morning Shooting Leaves Omak Man Injured

The first incident occurred in the early morning hours of April 17, when an Omak man was shot near Johnson Creek Rd. Deputies responding to the scene discovered that the victim had been transported to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak by private vehicle. The alleged assailant in this case, identified as Sarah Hall, was swiftly arrested and booked into Okanogan County Jail on first-degree assault charges.

Brewster Woman Fatally Shot in Her Home

Tragedy struck again on April 30, when a Brewster woman was found fatally shot in her home on Keran Rd. The victim, who was discovered in a reclining chair with a gunshot wound to the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s husband, believed to be the assailant, was arrested and booked into Okanogan County Jail on first-degree murder charges.

Tonasket Man Found Shot in Backyard

On the evening of May 14, a Tonasket man was found shot in a residential backyard near HWY 7. The victim, who had sustained three gunshot wounds, was airlifted to the nearest trauma center for urgent medical treatment. The man’s wife, Genovenya Vargas-Paniague, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree attempted murder.

Deceased Woman Discovered in Twisp

The wave of violence continued on the evening of May 18, when a deceased woman was found in Twisp, near HWY 20. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Sharon Gray, was found wrapped in a tarp. The alleged assailant, 50-year-old Jason Rumohr, was arrested and booked into Okanogan County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, among others.

Investigations Underway

The Detective’s Division of Okanogan County is currently investigating these assaults and deaths. All of the cases mentioned above are under active investigation as law enforcement officials work tirelessly to bring closure to the victims’ families and ensure that justice is served.
