(CBS DETROIT) – A 19-year-old Michigan man has been taken into custody after allegedly brandishing a firearm at another driver multiple times on Interstate 75 on Tuesday night.
Authorities were alerted to the incident when Monroe County dispatch received a 911 call from a victim reporting a road rage altercation on the northbound lanes of I-75.
The victim recounted to law enforcement officials that a driver in a white GMC pickup truck had pulled out a gun and aimed it at them while the two vehicles were driving alongside each other on the freeway.
In response to the call, a Monroe County deputy was able to locate the suspect vehicle on N. Telegraph Road near I-275. A traffic stop was promptly conducted, and the driver, identified as a 19-year-old resident of Newport, was placed under arrest.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered two unregistered handguns. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect did not possess a valid concealed pistol license.
The 19-year-old individual has been charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
