Santos Tiul-Chen : Tragic Teen Drowning at Church Event

ALVA, Fla. (WBBH) – A devastating tragedy unfolded in Alva, Florida, as three young men lost their lives in a drowning incident at a local lock and dam. The victims, identified as Santos Tiul-Chen, Pedro Pascal, and Victor Leonardo Pedro Gaspar, were all members of the Jesus Es La Verdad Church in Fort Myers. The community is in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of these bright young souls.

The incident occurred following a church youth event at Franklin Lock and Dam, where a group of individuals decided to stay behind for a swim. Neyda Velasquez, a close friend of the victims, expressed the shock and disbelief that has gripped everyone who knew them.

The tragic event unfolded when Tiul-Chen, who lacked swimming experience, entered the water and began to struggle. Pascal and Gaspar bravely attempted to rescue their friend, but tragically, all three young men succumbed to the strong currents and did not resurface.

Velasquez fondly recalled her interactions with the young men, describing them as dedicated individuals who were committed to their faith and community. Their sudden and tragic demise has left a void in the hearts of all who knew them.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office provided details of the harrowing incident, highlighting the valiant efforts of the victims to save their friend despite the perilous conditions. As the investigation continues, authorities have issued warnings in the area, reinforcing the importance of water safety. The Army Corps of Engineers has erected new signs in English and Spanish, cautioning against swimming in the vicinity.
