Accident – Death – Obituary News : Two individuals in Monroe and Macomb counties have been formally charged this week in connection with alleged road rage incidents. Authorities took action and arrested a Newport man for supposedly pointing a handgun at another driver on Interstate-75 on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when a 19-year-old man was driving a white GMC pickup truck on northbound Interstate 75 near Nadeau Road in Frenchtown Township. He reportedly pulled up alongside another driver and pointed the gun at them multiple times on the roadside, as per the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office statement. The victim immediately dialed 911 and provided a detailed description of the man’s car, weapon, and location until deputies arrived at the scene.

Deputies managed to intercept the Newport resident on North Telegraph Road near I-275 and discovered two unregistered handguns inside his truck. The individual was subsequently arrested on charges of felonious assault and carrying a concealed firearm due to the absence of a concealed pistol license.

Investigations into the incident are being conducted by Deputy Zachery Marzouq of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Services Division. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact (734) 240-7746.

In a separate incident, a man was reported to have driven erratically while heading north on North Avenue at 21 Mile Road on Saturday in a fit of “road rage,” according to a press release from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Ryan Borella from Rochester Hills, allegedly swerved in and out of southbound lanes after experiencing difficulty merging lanes. Subsequently, he got out of his truck at a red light on 24 Mile and approached a 63-year-old Roseville man driving north in an SUV with a knife, causing fear for the safety of the driver and his passenger.

Law enforcement officers swiftly identified and apprehended Borella, recovering the knife from his truck. He was arraigned through 41A District Court in Shelby Township on three felony counts, including carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. Judge James Verploeg set Borella’s bond at $20,000, as indicated in the court documents.

A probable cause hearing for Borella is scheduled for May 30. His attorney, Dawn Walton, has yet to respond to requests for comment as of Wednesday.

These arrests follow a series of other road rage-related incidents in Metro Detroit in recent weeks, including incidents in Sterling Heights and Wayne County. It is crucial for all road users to exercise caution and patience to prevent such dangerous altercations on the roads..
