Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In Richmond, a man has been found guilty of possessing a firearm as a felon, as reported by the Department of Justice.

Incident Details

Court documents and evidence presented during the trial revealed that on January 20, Richmond Police officers were on patrol in the Fairfield Court neighborhood. They observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high speed, disregarding stop signs.

Upon attempting to intercept the vehicle, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Rashad Laroy Ebron, abruptly halted the car, got out, and discarded an object onto the floorboard. He then locked the car door before the officers could approach.

Upon closer inspection, the officers noticed a 9mm handgun in plain sight on the car’s floorboard. Ebron claimed he was unable to unlock the car as his keys were inside, and he had no identification on him.

Despite Ebron’s assertions, the officers were able to confirm his identity as a convicted felon. Subsequently, Ebron was arrested, the car was unlocked, and the firearm was seized.

Prior Criminal Record

It was revealed that Ebron had a history of criminal convictions, including grand larceny in 2011, evading the police in 2013, and robbery with firearm use in 2016.

Given his status as a previously convicted felon, Ebron was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.

Legal Ramifications

Ebron is now facing a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, with the sentencing scheduled for September 29. It is worth noting that actual sentences for federal crimes often fall below the maximum penalties.

The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge, who will consider various factors including the U.S. sentencing guidelines and statutory requirements.

It is essential to adhere to the law and understand the consequences of illegal firearm possession, especially for individuals with prior criminal records like Ebron.
