A 13-year-old is currently recovering after being shot by a 16-year-old on Tuesday night in Iredell County, North Carolina. The incident took place at around 9:45 p.m. on Crescent Lane, a residential street located just off Highway 70.

According to a spokesperson from the Statesville Police Department, the 13-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was provided with immediate medical attention at the scene. Subsequently, the victim was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where they are reported to be in stable condition as of Wednesday morning.

Following the shooting, the 16-year-old suspect was quickly identified and subsequently arrested. The youth criminal law has issued a secure pre-trial detention order against the 16-year-old for attempted murder.
