A 13-year-old is currently recovering after sustaining injuries from a shooting incident involving a 16-year-old in Iredell County on Tuesday evening.
According to a spokesperson from the Statesville Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Crescent Lane, a residential street located in close proximity to Highway 70.
The victim, a 13-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Reports indicate that the individual is currently in stable condition as of Wednesday morning.
Following investigations into the shooting, the 16-year-old perpetrator was identified and subsequently taken into custody by authorities. The Department of Juvenile Justice has issued a secure custody order against the suspect for attempted murder.
