PALM HARBOR, Fla. – A man drenched in blood confessed to deputies that he had taken a life when they reached a residence in Palm Harbor on Tuesday afternoon, as per the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., law enforcement officials were summoned to the 300 block of Shore Drive following a 911 call reporting that a resident had admitted to committing a murder.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Weldon, standing outside his residence covered in blood. Weldon allegedly directed the deputies towards the house, saying, “He is dead.”

Investigators disclosed that the victim, later identified as 49-year-old Carroll Bryan, was found lifeless on the back patio with severe blunt force injuries to his head, neck, and arm.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Bryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to detectives, Weldon and Bryan had crossed paths at a local bar in Clearwater around two weeks ago, where Weldon had offered to assist Bryan. Weldon had lent his vehicle to Bryan about a week prior.

When Bryan failed to return the vehicle as promised, Weldon became agitated, leading to a confrontation on Tuesday at Weldon’s residence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Based on the evidence collected at the scene, it appears that Bryan was struck in the back of the head while on the back patio during the altercation, authorities stated.

Subsequently, Bryan was repeatedly assaulted while lying on the ground, resulting in additional injuries, as per PCSO.
