Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by a Washington state trooper during an altercation on Interstate 5 north of Seattle as 31-year-old Marvin Arellano from Nampa, Idaho. The incident occurred last week and resulted in Arellano’s death from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Reports indicate that the state patrol received a call about a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett. The situation escalated when the man began ramming into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle that was operating over a slough with two contractors inside. Law enforcement officials stated that Arellano then attacked the road workers and a responding trooper, leading to the fatal shooting. Despite efforts by law enforcement to save him, Arellano passed away at the scene. One of the contractors sustained injuries during the incident.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for investigating police use of force, has not provided any updates on the investigation. The trooper involved in the shooting remains unnamed at this time.
