Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by a Washington state trooper during an altercation on Interstate 5 north of Seattle as 31-year-old Marvin Arellano of Nampa, Idaho.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Arellano died from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident took place last week on northbound I-5 in Everett, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Altercation on Interstate 5
The state patrol received reports of a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of the highway. The situation escalated when the man began ramming into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle that was in operation over a slough, with two contractors working on board.
Law enforcement officials stated that Arellano then proceeded to attack the road workers and a trooper who had responded to the scene. In the resulting confrontation, the trooper fired his weapon, fatally injuring Arellano. Despite efforts to save him, Arellano succumbed to his injuries at the scene. One of the contractors sustained injuries during the altercation.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for investigating incidents involving police use of force, is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of now, no further details have been released regarding the progress of the investigation.
