Authorities have confirmed that the individual who was tragically killed during an altercation with a Washington state trooper on Interstate 5 last week has been identified as Marvin Arellano, a 31-year-old man from Nampa, Idaho. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Arellano succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Altercation on Interstate 5

The incident unfolded when the state patrol received reports of a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett. Witnesses observed the man deliberately colliding with a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle, which had a lift in operation over a slough with two contractors on board, according to investigators.

Law enforcement officials stated that Arellano proceeded to assault the road workers and a trooper who responded to the scene. In an effort to subdue the assailant, the trooper discharged their weapon, resulting in Arellano’s untimely death at the location. Despite the immediate medical attention provided by law enforcement, Arellano could not be saved. One of the contract workers sustained injuries during the altercation.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for scrutinising instances of police use of force, has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, as of Wednesday, the team had not issued any updates on the progress of their inquiry in response to inquiries made by The Associated Press.
