Everett, Wash. (AP) — The individual who tragically lost their life during an altercation with a Washington state trooper on Interstate 5, just north of Seattle, has now been identified as Marvin Arellano, a 31-year-old man from Nampa, Idaho.

According to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, Arellano succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The incident took place last week and has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Daily Herald reported on the details of the fatal encounter.

Authorities were called to the scene after receiving reports of a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett. The situation escalated when the man began ramming into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle, which had a lift in operation over a slough with two contractors on board.

Law enforcement officials stated that Arellano proceeded to attack the road workers and a responding trooper, leading to the fatal shooting. Despite efforts by law enforcement personnel to assist him, Arellano passed away at the scene. One of the contractors sustained injuries during the incident.

Investigation Ongoing

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for probing police use of force incidents, has yet to provide an update on the investigation. The Associated Press reached out to the team for further information, but they have not responded to inquiries as of now.

The trooper involved in the shooting has chosen to remain anonymous at this time, with their identity not disclosed to the public.
