Fresh information has come to light regarding a tragic two-vehicle accident involving a deputy sheriff and a resident of Baldwin County, authorities have disclosed.

The incident occurred on the evening of May 15, claiming the life of Louis “Louie” Mazzola Sr., a 67-year-old individual who resided on the 300 block of Kings Road, in close proximity to where the collision took place.

Following the crash, life-saving measures, including CPR, were administered by the deputy involved, identified as Reid William White, a 37-year-old road patrol sergeant working the night shift at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Tragically, Mazzola was pronounced dead by a hospital physician shortly after being transported by Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Services.

Deputy Sheriff Injured in Collision

Deputy White sustained injuries in the collision and was subsequently treated at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville. He is currently recuperating at his residence from the injuries sustained during the incident.

It was revealed that prior to the collision, Deputy White was en route to a 911 emergency call reporting a fictitious crime, made by a woman named Quchina Harden, who has since been arrested and is facing misdemeanor charges.

Georgia State Patrol Report

Details from the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville indicated that Deputy White was responding to the emergency call with his blue lights activated at the time of the collision.

The report outlined the sequence of events, stating that White attempted to overtake Mazzola’s vehicle in the left lane of travel, resulting in the collision impact in the westbound lane.

Collision Reconstruction Investigation

Further investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the collision.

According to the report, Mazzola’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on its rooftop after being struck by Deputy White’s vehicle, leading to Mazzola being thrown from his vehicle and tragically losing his life.

Funeral Services and Surviving Family

Funeral services for Mazzola were held at Williams Funeral Home in Milledgeville, where he was remembered by his wife, children, siblings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mazzola, originally from Westbury, New York, had moved to Baldwin County years ago, leaving behind a legacy in the community.
