Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Leonard Blum, an 89-year-old resident of Gurnee, has tragically passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash that occurred on Saturday in Warren Township.
The incident took place at around 2:15 p.m. when Blum was a passenger in a RAV4 being driven by an 88-year-old woman. The driver was attempting to make a right turn onto Stearns School Road from Route 41 when the collision occurred.
According to authorities, the RAV4 collided with a car driven by a 20-year-old woman from Richmond, who was trying to turn left onto Stearns School Road from Route 41. The impact resulted in minor damage to both vehicles.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver of the RAV4 mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to accelerate rapidly. This led to the driver losing control of the car, which ultimately crashed into a utility pole on Stearns School Road near Fuller Road.
Both the driver and Leonard Blum were rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Blum was pronounced dead later that evening in the intensive care unit.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, a Forte, escaped without any injuries.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
