Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A blight fight project was given the green light by the council in El Campo on Monday, with plans in place for the city to supply materials for a county road paving project in the Isaacson Municipal Utility District located just east of town.

According to City Public Works Director Kevin Thompson, the project will see the city investing $13,015 in various paving materials to revamp Fred Street, a 410-foot long roadway. The work, which involves reclaiming the chip seal and then reworking the roadway, will be carried out by county crews.

The surrounding area, both within and outside the city limits, has been highlighted as blighted in various master plan studies. Commissioners had already given the green light for the work on the IMUD roadway earlier on Monday morning.

The utility district, which relies on the City of El Campo for all its water and sewer treatment services, falls within Commissioner Doug Matthews’ Precinct 4.

Collaboration for Community Improvement

“This is a perfect example of how collaborative efforts can lead to positive outcomes,” remarked District 1 Councilman Steve Ward. District 4 Councilman John Hancock Jr. concurred, emphasising the importance of county involvement in municipal projects.

“We need to see more participation from the county in the development and improvement of our cities,” added Hancock.

The motion for the blight fight project was put forward by Coblentz and seconded by Hancock. The motion passed unanimously, with new At-large Councilman Kyle Wallis not in attendance.
