Three individuals have been taken into custody by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in connection to a string of armed robberies. The arrests were made after a police pursuit ended in a crash on Tuesday.

According to CMPD, the incident began early Tuesday morning when a woman was robbed at gunpoint while walking near New Bern Street. The suspects stole her personal belongings and attempted to use her credit card shortly after the robbery.

Just before 10 p.m. that same day, CMPD officers located the suspects’ vehicle, which had been reported stolen. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver, identified as 18-year-old Joaquin Lopez-Davidson, refused to stop, leading to a high-speed chase.

The pursuit came to an end when Lopez-Davidson lost control of the car and collided with a pole. All three suspects, including 19-year-old Nichols Lopez-Davidson and 31-year-old Joseph Cruz, were apprehended at the scene.

All three individuals have been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, financial card theft, felony conspiracy, and misdemeanor financial card transaction fraud. Additionally, Joaquin Lopez-Davidson faces charges of felony flee to elude and felony possession of stolen goods.

Local news channel 9 captured footage of the crash, showing the overturned vehicle and the damaged pole. The incident occurred not far from another armed robbery that took place in South End on the same day.

In the separate incident, a 26-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint on Youngblood Street, where the suspect made off with cash, a computer, an iPhone, and the victim’s purse.
