Accident – Death – Obituary News : A body was discovered floating in the Rock River over the weekend near Downtown Rockford, and authorities have now confirmed the identity of the deceased individual.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office released a statement revealing that a passerby spotted the body floating near the Jefferson Street bridge at approximately 11:10 am on Sunday and promptly contacted emergency services. Upon arrival, emergency crews determined that the body belonged to a deceased male. With the assistance of the Rockford Fire Department, the body was recovered from the river and pronounced dead at 12:15 pm.
Following an autopsy and notification of the next-of-kin, the Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 67-year-old Fritz Bailey, a resident of Rockford, Illinois. The preliminary autopsy results are currently pending further studies.
According to reports, Fritz Bailey had been reported missing from Rockford less than a week prior, on May 14. An investigation into Bailey’s death is currently underway by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
