Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has launched an extensive search operation for Elizabeth Schenk, a 70-year-old woman from Oakland, CA, who went missing on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, while exploring the scenic Bruhel Point Road, located north of Fort Bragg.

According to reports, Schenk, who suffers from various pre-existing medical conditions, failed to return from a morning stroll on a nearby logging road, prompting concern among her acquaintances. After reaching out to a male friend for directions at around 9:30 A.M., Schenk did not come back as expected, and subsequent attempts to contact her via phone went unanswered.

The worried acquaintance and local residents initially conducted a search for Schenk before contacting the authorities. Given Schenk’s medical history, her disappearance was deemed high-risk, leading to a swift and coordinated search effort involving multiple agencies.

Throughout the night and into the following morning, teams comprising personnel from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue units, California Highway Patrol, Westport Volunteer Fire Department, and CAL FIRE combed the area in search of Schenk. However, despite their efforts, the missing woman remains unlocated. Additional assistance from Search and Rescue teams and a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol Northern Division Air Operations in Redding, CA, was enlisted on Wednesday to aid in the search.

Schenk was last seen wearing a white sweater, white vest, and white jeans. Described as a white female, standing at 5’05’’ and weighing 150 pounds, with graying brown hair and blue eyes, Schenk’s whereabouts continue to be a source of concern.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in locating Schenk. Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 707-463-4086.

The press release issued by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office provides a detailed account of the events leading up to Schenk’s disappearance and the ongoing search efforts to find her. The collaborative approach taken by multiple agencies underscores the seriousness with which her case is being treated..
