LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) – A wedding night celebration in Indiana took a dark turn when the groom, Corey Parker, found himself behind bars and another man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his hand.
The incident, which unfolded in Salem, Indiana, was reported to the Indiana State Police by a distressed woman who claimed that Parker had shot her boyfriend during a heated argument involving another man, later identified as Jonathon Goff.
The woman told authorities that she believed the shooting to be a drunken accident, adding a layer of confusion to the already chaotic situation.
Parker, who had just celebrated his recent marriage, explained to the police that his bride had left with Goff’s wife to return to their hotel. The altercation allegedly began when Goff’s wife accused him of flirting with another woman, sparking a confrontation.
According to Parker’s account, as he was preparing to leave, he and Goff engaged in a physical altercation, resulting in both men pushing each other. Parker claimed that Goff attempted to reach for a gun in the car’s center console, leading to a struggle over the weapon.
In the midst of the scuffle, the gun discharged, injuring the boyfriend of the woman who made the emergency call to 911. Parker maintained that he had no intention of shooting the man, believing that both he and Goff were under threat.
Parker was charged with battery for striking Goff and criminal recklessness for the shooting incident. Goff faced the same charges and pleaded not guilty, posting a $3,000 cash bond.
Both men are scheduled to stand trial in September, as the aftermath of the wedding reception continues to unfold.
