PASADENA, Calif. – A 62-year-old man from Pasadena, California, has been taken into custody by authorities for his alleged involvement in a series of over 150 unidentified explosions that have rocked the city over the past two years, the Pasadena Police Department announced.
The suspect, Art Leon Berian, is accused of setting off these explosions, with 14 incidents reported in the past two weeks alone, according to a press release from the police department.
The breakthrough in the case came on May 16 when investigators, while obtaining video footage of a previous explosion, heard a loud blast and witnessed a white cloud forming in front of them. Upon further investigation, detectives identified Berian’s 2013 BMW, one of two vehicles linked to him that had been seen at previous explosion sites.
Following his detention, evidence related to the explosion was recovered from Berian’s vehicle, leading to his subsequent arrest and booking into Pasadena City Jail.
Despite the numerous explosions, authorities noted that there have been no reported injuries associated with these incidents. Berian now faces three felony charges of explosions with intent to injure or intimidate.
Officials from the Pasadena Police Department have confirmed that Berian is being held without bail, with his arraignment rescheduled for May 30.
