San Antonio Police release name of man shot, killed by officers Sunday night when he reportedly tried to run them down

The San Antonio Police Department has officially released the identity of the individual who was shot and killed by officers on Sunday night.

According to reports, the incident took place at a Northwest Side apartment complex following a call regarding an individual smoking marijuana near the pool.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had been reported stolen in the parking lot.

After addressing the initial complaint, the officers returned to the parking lot and observed the man entering the stolen vehicle. He proceeded to drive over a curb and towards the direction of the police.

Perceiving the man’s actions as a threat, the officers opened fire, resulting in the 21-year-old suspect, Angel Gabriel Cuevas, being shot in the head. Cuevas was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities have identified the officers involved in the incident as Travis Maxwell and Daniel Garcia, both of whom have less than a year of service with the department. They will be placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation.
