Tragedy struck in Tripura as two individuals, including a 4-year-old girl, lost their lives in separate drowning incidents in ponds.
Child Drowns in Khilpara Area
The first heartbreaking incident occurred in the Khilpara area under Udaipur Sub-division of Gomati District. Ananya Karmakar, a 4-year-old girl, met an untimely demise in a tragic accident.
Ananya had accompanied her grandmother to a neighbour’s house to attend a puja ceremony. Upon returning home, she informed her grandmother about needing to use the toilet and went behind the house as usual.
When she did not return after some time, her family members began searching for her. They found Ananya’s footwear near a nearby pond, leading them to suspect that she had fallen into it.
The fire service personnel were alerted and rushed to the scene. With the help of locals, they retrieved Ananya’s lifeless body from the pond. She was rushed to Gomati District Hospital, where doctors pronounced her brought dead.
Woman Drowns in Old Tabla Bari Area
In another tragic incident, a 50-year-old woman named Parampati Debbarma lost her life after accidentally falling into a pond at the Old Tabla Bari area under the Khowai Sub-division of Khowai district.
According to her husband, Parampati had gone to their household pond, where water irrigation work was taking place. Unfortunately, she slipped and fell into the water. With no one around to help and her inability to swim, she tragically drowned.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers posed by water bodies, especially for young children and individuals who are not strong swimmers. Authorities urge caution and vigilance when near ponds and other bodies of water to prevent such tragic accidents.
