PIERSON, Fla. – In a shocking turn of events, four young suspects, including three minors and an 18-year-old, have been apprehended following a drive-by shooting near Daytona Beach late Sunday night.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a shooting incident at a residence on Shaw Lake Road. Thanks to accurate information provided by dispatchers regarding the suspect vehicle description and tag number, a deputy was able to intercept the red Toyota Tacoma en route to the scene.

Upon conducting a traffic stop, the occupants of the vehicle were detained, and a search yielded two handguns, boxes of ammunition, additional magazines, and plastic bags containing spent shell casings. The drive-by shooting resulted in multiple bullet holes in the front of the house and an interior wall, with one bullet even striking a television in a bedroom. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Following their arrest, the suspects were given a stern warning by law enforcement officers. “You all are going to go to jail. I’ll tell you your charges here in a second. It involves probably shooting into an unoccupied dwelling, possession of a firearm, and whatever else we have out there, all right?” an officer stated. “You guys are like laughing and joking, like this is a joke. This isn’t a speeding ticket or a little nickel bag of weed, these are very serious felony charges.”

The individuals involved in the incident have been identified as 18-year-old Zared Castaneda, 15-year-old Jesus Castaneda, 15-year-old Angel Ruiz-Rios, and 16-year-old Brian Hernandez. They are facing a range of charges including firing into an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and firing a weapon in public or on residential property.

The minors have also been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, while Castaneda faces additional charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The eldest of the group has been taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and is currently being held on no bond.

Meanwhile, the younger suspects have been taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing before being transferred to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Located approximately 35 miles west of Daytona Beach, Pierson is now at the center of this disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community.
