Accident – Death – Obituary News : A Moss Beach resident has been apprehended for arson following a trailer fire that erupted early on Saturday morning, subsequently spreading to a storage facility in San Mateo County’s Princeton-by-the-Sea neighbourhood. The incident caused damage to eight storage units, with the fire being reported at approximately 1:30 a.m. at Princeton Storage Co., situated at 199 Airport St. in the unincorporated coastal community to the north of Half Moon Bay.

Emergency services, including firefighters from Cal Fire, the Coastside Fire Protection District, and the North County Fire Authority, swiftly responded to the scene. By 6:30 a.m., the flames were successfully contained, averting any injuries. Business owner Judy Baskin, who hails from Austin, Texas, flew in upon learning of the fire. While the extent of the damage is yet to be fully assessed, preliminary estimates suggest losses in the tens of thousands of dollars, as reported by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Fortunately, no personnel were present on the premises at the time of the incident, although one customer was on-site. Of the eight affected units, one sustained significant damage, while the rest primarily suffered from smoke damage, with some siding also being compromised. In response to the emergency, deputies swiftly evacuated nearby residents and established a secure perimeter as firefighters battled the blaze, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.

Following a prompt joint investigation by sheriff’s deputies and fire investigators, a suspect was promptly identified as 29-year-old William A. Caneitzep of Moss Beach. Caneitzep was located and apprehended by sheriff’s deputies at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, subsequently being booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of arson. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with pertinent information to come forward by contacting the anonymous Tip Line at (800) 547-2700. Community members are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the Sheriff’s Office promptly..
