An 11-year-old girl from Gray Court, Ruby Guevara, who had been reported missing, has been found safe in Prince George County, Maryland, after a multi-state search. The authorities have located the girl and a 21-year-old man, Rafael Antonio Santos Garcia, who was believed to be with her at the time of her disappearance.
The incident began on May 5 when deputies responded to Georgia Road in Gray Court following a report of Ruby Guevara’s disappearance. Initially, there was limited information available, but it was suspected that she was in the company of a 21-year-old man, later identified as Rafael Antonio Santos Garcia, who was known to the family. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was contacted early on to aid in the investigation.
After efforts to locate the pair revealed that they had crossed state lines, the FBI was called in to assist. Eventually, on May 21, Ruby Guevara was found safe in Prince George County, Maryland, along with Rafael Antonio Santos Garcia and members of his family. Garcia has since been arrested and is currently held at the Prince George’s County Correctional Center on charges of Kidnapping and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He is awaiting extradition back to South Carolina.
Authorities are making arrangements to bring Ruby Guevara back to South Carolina, and the investigation is ongoing with more charges expected to be filed. Sheriff Don Reynolds expressed his gratitude for the safe recovery of Ruby, acknowledging the challenging circumstances of the case and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in locating her.
“I am truly thankful that Ruby has been located safely,” said Sheriff Don Reynolds. “This was a tough situation, sorting through limited information and trying to find a subject who made it his mission to not be found. I understand the desire for details, but certain information had to be kept discreet for Garcia to be located. I appreciate SLED, the FBI, Lexington County, Prince George’s County, and our investigators for being dedicated and pressing on to find Ruby.”
