Kaieteur News – Authorities in Regional Division 4C are currently delving into the details of a devastating accident that occurred on Sunday evening, around 19:50h on Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, resulting in the untimely passing of a 48-year-old Enmore resident.
The incident involved a motor lorry bearing the registration number GTT4579, driven by a 37-year-old individual hailing from Agriculture Road, ECD, and a pedestrian identified as Rooplall Haindarsan from Lot 93 Logwood Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
Initial investigations suggest that the motor lorry was travelling westward along the southern side of Enmore Public Road at a moderate speed. The driver has stated that the pedestrian, without warning, darted across the road from the north to the south, directly in the path of the oncoming vehicle, leading to a tragic collision.
Following the impact, the pedestrian fell to the road surface, sustaining severe injuries to his body. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) swiftly responded to the scene, and the unconscious pedestrian was promptly transported to Georgetown Public Hospital for urgent medical care. Sadly, upon evaluation by medical personnel, the pedestrian was declared deceased upon arrival at the medical facility.
At present, the deceased’s body has been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. The motor lorry involved in the accident has been impounded for thorough examination, and the driver is presently under police custody assisting with inquiries.
