MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly driving under the influence and evading police after an officer attempted to pull him over, as reported by the Madera Police Department.
The incident unfolded when an officer was monitoring traffic at the intersection of N. Lake St. and E. Lincoln Ave. The officer witnessed a Chevy pickup truck breezing through the intersection at approximately 25 mph, failing to stop at a posted stop sign.
Upon this observation, the officer initiated a traffic stop with the driver, identified as Richard Morales. However, instead of complying, Morales decided to flee from the scene, prompting a brief pursuit by law enforcement.
During the chase, Morales allegedly committed several traffic violations before eventually arriving at his residence. It was at this point that police apprehended him and determined that he was driving while under the influence, elevating his offence from a misdemeanor to a felony.
Following his arrest, Morales was transported to Madera County Jail to face the consequences of his actions.
