Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Nurses Quarters, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, as a seven-year-old boy tragically lost his life after drowning in the Agyei River. The lack of a bridge over the river proved to be a fatal obstacle, leading to this devastating outcome.

The community was left in shock when the lifeless body of the young boy was discovered in the river on Monday morning. The previous evening had seen a frantic search effort after he failed to return home from an errand. Eyewitnesses recount the desperate moments that followed, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure to prevent such tragedies.

This unfortunate incident is not an isolated one, as the community had previously mourned the loss of an adult who met a similar fate while attempting to cross the river. The absence of a bridge has made navigation hazardous for residents, particularly children who need to access schools and essential services across the water.

The residents have long been advocating for the construction of a bridge, emphasizing the critical need for safe passage over the river. Despite their pleas to the Ga South and Awutu Senya East Municipal Assemblies, no action has been taken to address this pressing issue.

A makeshift wooden bridge, constructed by the community in a bid to overcome the lack of infrastructure, was ultimately washed away by the river’s current. This setback has left the residents vulnerable and exposed to the dangers of crossing the river.

Community leaders have expressed their frustration and disappointment at the authorities’ neglect of their pleas for assistance. They firmly believe that the tragedy could have been averted with the presence of a bridge, and they are calling for immediate action to rectify this long-standing problem.

“The ongoing disregard for our community’s safety is unacceptable. We have repeatedly raised our concerns to the relevant authorities, only to be met with indifference. The tragic loss of this young life serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of inaction,” remarked Naa Lantey Liki Kanor, the Queen mother of Nurses Quarters.

Join the Movement for Change

The residents of Nurses Quarters are determined to see a positive change in their community and are urging all concerned citizens to join their cause. The construction of a bridge over the Agyei River is not just a matter of convenience but a vital necessity to ensure the safety and well-being of all who reside in the area.

It is time for the authorities to listen to the voices of the people and take decisive action to prevent further tragedies from occurring. Let us stand together in solidarity with Nurses Quarters and demand the implementation of essential infrastructure that will protect lives and create a safer environment for all.
