A 30-year-old man from San Bernardino has been named as the suspect believed to have fired at a deputy during an attempted traffic stop in Jurupa Valley earlier this month, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place during a pursuit on the evening of May 14, after the suspect, Martin Perez Jr., allegedly refused to cooperate when a motor deputy attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation on Wineville and Limonite avenues in Jurupa Valley. Subsequently, the suspect drove onto a dirt road near 68th Street, west of Pats Ranch Road, and reportedly shot at the deputy. Fortunately, the deputy did not sustain any injuries and did not return fire, as confirmed by officials.

Afterwards, the suspect fled the scene and entered an area with dense foliage near the Santa Ana river bottom. He abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot in an unknown direction. Despite an extensive search that evening, authorities were unable to locate Perez Jr., who is now considered armed and dangerous. The sheriff’s office has issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.
