In a devastating incident in Venkatraopet village of Rajanna Sircilla district, a woman lost her life and six others sustained injuries while working on a trench under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA). The victim, identified as 50-year-old Marpaka Rajavva from Venkatraopet village in Konaraopet mandal, was among the workers digging a trench at a water tank when tragedy struck on Tuesday morning.
At around 9 a.m., an earthen mound collapsed, burying the workers under it. Rajavva suffered serious injuries in the incident and was rushed to the Government hospital in Sircilla along with the other injured workers. Despite medical intervention, she tragically succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. The condition of the remaining injured workers is reported to be stable.
The local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the earth mound collapse.
