INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers arrested two individuals on reckless driving charges after witnessing an incident on the near northwest side of Indianapolis. The arrests were made following a proactive detail conducted by officers at Riverside Park in response to recent complaints of reckless driving and “spinning” in the area.
According to a post on IMPD’s social media page, officers from the department’s northwest district observed a silver Dodge Charger performing burnouts and donuts in a crowded area of spectators. A passenger in the vehicle was seen hanging out of an open passenger door during the reckless driving.
After leaving the park, IMPD officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, identified as 22-year-old Marcell Gill, on charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.
At the same time, officers observed a tan Toyota Camry traveling at a recklessly high speed on Burdsal Parkway, tailgating another vehicle and attempting to pass it in a no-passing zone. The driver of the Camry, identified as 23-year-old Devyn Prater, had a suspended license and was found in possession of a black pistol with an extended magazine. Prater was arrested for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and driving while suspended with a prior conviction for armed robbery in 2018.
IMPD officials commended the Northwest District officers for their diligent work in deterring reckless driving and making the community a safer place for all residents.
The arrests highlight IMPD’s ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing dangerous driving behaviors in the city.
