Accident – Death – Obituary News :
An elderly man, aged 89, tragically lost his life following a car accident that took place in Warren Township. The victim has been formally identified as Leonard Blum, a resident of Gurnee.
The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon, when Blum was a passenger in a RAV4 being driven by an 88-year-old woman. The driver was attempting to make a right turn onto Stearns School Road from Route 41, when another vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old woman from Richmond, attempted to turn left onto the same road from Route 41. This resulted in a collision between the two vehicles, causing minor damage.
According to authorities from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, it is believed that the driver of the RAV4 accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, causing the vehicle to accelerate rapidly. As a result, the driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole on Stearns School Road near Fuller Road, which is the first road west of the initial crash site.
Both the driver and Leonard Blum were critically injured in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, Blum succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit later that same evening. The driver of the RAV4, as well as the driver of the other vehicle involved in the initial collision, escaped without serious injuries.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the exact cause of the tragic incident.
