BOUND BROOK – A Piscataway man, Lenic Galvan, formerly a resident of Bound Brook, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in the borough. The verdict was delivered by a Somerset County Superior Court jury on May 14.
Galvan, 22, is now facing a potential ten-year sentence in state prison, with 85% of the term to be served without the possibility of parole. Additionally, he will be mandated to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to lifelong parole supervision. The sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
Details of the Assault
The incident came to light on July 25, 2021, when the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received a report from a 12-year-old girl alleging that she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male in Bound Brook. The victim had met the perpetrator on social media, who then arranged transportation for her to his residence where the assault took place.
Following an interview with a female detective from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit, the victim identified Galvan as the assailant. Five days later, on July 26, 2022, Galvan was arrested in Bound Brook without incident, thanks to the joint efforts of the Prosecutor’s Office, Bound Brook Police Department, and DNA evidence.
Collaborative Investigation
The investigation into the case was led by Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office SVU Detective Sean Fraser and Bound Brook Police Captain Jason Gianotto, along with Detective Sergeant Gerard Flanagan. The Plainfield Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office also played a pivotal role in locating the victim.
The prosecution team presenting the case in court included First Assistant Prosecutor Annemarie Mueller, Assistant Prosecutor Emily Pirro, and Litigation Paralegal Supervisor Amy Vandergoot.
