A Piscataway man, formerly a resident of Bound Brook, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in the borough, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald.
Lenic Galvan, 22, faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in state prison, with 85% of the term to be served without the possibility of parole. Additionally, Galvan will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and be subject to parole supervision for life. Sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
A Somerset County Superior Court jury reached a verdict on May 14, finding Galvin guilty of second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
On July 25, 2021, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received a report from a 12-year-old girl alleging that she had been sexually assaulted in Bound Brook by an unidentified male she met on social media.
During an interview with a female detective from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit, the girl recounted that the man had arranged transportation for her to his residence where the assault took place.
Following an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Bound Brook Police Department, as well as DNA analysis, Galvan was arrested without incident in Bound Brook on July 26, 2022.
The case was diligently investigated by Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office SVU Detective Sean Fraser and Bound Brook Police Captain Jason Gianotto and Detective Sergeant Gerard Flanagan. Assistance in locating the victim was provided by the Plainfield Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
First Assistant Prosecutor Annemarie Mueller, Assistant Prosecutor Emily Pirro, and Litigation Paralegal Supervisor Amy Vandergoot presented the case in court.
